Extra Practice Ideas for you to do at home
This is something to do with your child at home to help reinforce what we are doing in class. You do not have to send this to school to be turned in. The activities below are completely optional.
Remind your child that when they are problem solving they need to include their strategy/thinking, matching equation, labels, and explanation that tells exactly step by step how they solved the problem. (Use checklist from the math problem solving tab if needed.)

2. Isabel was selling Girl Scout cookies this weekend around her neighborhood. When she got home she noticed that the amount of Carmel Delights was double the amount of Thin Mints. How many Carmel Delights did she sell? How many Carmel Delights and Thin Mints did she sell this weekend altogether?
USE THE DATA CHART BELOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND THE EXTENSION:
DATA CHART
Thin Mints - 56
Lemon - 67
Carmel Delights - ?
Peanut Butter - 100
Extension: If Isabel’s goal was to sell 425 cookies this weekend, did she reach her goal? If not, how many more cookies would Isabel need to sell to reach her goal?
3. Using 2 dice, roll and build a two-digit number. Write this number down and roll your dice again to build a second two-digit number. Then, add the two numbers together using your Bridge to 10 Strategy. Record your number sentences in your journal. (**If you don’t have dice use a deck of cards or make number cards to draw from.)
Here is an example of using Bridge to 10 and Doubles to solve: “I rolled a 4 & 6 and made the number 46. I then rolled a 5 & 3 and made the number 35. Now, I will use my Bridge to 10 Strategy to add these two numbers together (46 + 35). I know that I can take 5 ones away from 46 (leaving me 41) and add the 5 ones I took away to the 35 (making it 40). Now I can add 41 + 40 a lot easier in my head. I know my doubles. So, Double 40 equals 80 and then I need to add plus 1. My answer is 81.”
