Blue Daily Folder
- Please check the pockets of the daily folder each day for homework, notes sent home, etc.
- Optional: Have your child record the title of the book he or she reads in the appropriate section of the folder each day along with the number of minutes read.
Behavior Log in Daily Folder
If your child had a great day regarding behavior, no news is good news. I will not write in folders unless there is a problem. You do not need to sign it each day. When behavior concerns arise during the day, they will be addressed with the following sequence of steps:
Warning (W) – Discussion with child. Redirection using PAWS expectations.
Step 1 (1) – Time away from group
Step 2 (2) – 10 minutes Think Track at recess or time away from group or action plan
Step 3 (3) – Call home/ or action plan
Step 4 (4) – Office referral
Please note that the above steps will be indicated on the behavior calendar with codes such as W and a written description of the problem in the “Behavior” section of the homework folder for that particular day.
Grading Policy
Classroom Assignments: Students do not receive traditional number/letter grades (e.g. 100A, 80B, 70C) in second grade. Many assignments, including homework, will be graded for completion using a check mark or star. Increasingly throughout the year, assignments and tests will be marked with the total number correct over the total points possible to help teachers assess mastery of concepts. Rather than focus on grades, we emphasize the learning process and strive to spark intrinsic motivation. Thank you for supporting our efforts to inspire lifelong learners!
Report Cards: The RRISD Primary Report Card is a standards-based continuum, meaning that progress is reported on the knowledge and skills your child is expected to master at each grade level. The continuum is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and ranges from Performance Level 1 to Performance Level 4. Please review the report card rubric for a more in depth explanation.
Level 1 - Exhibits skill/concept with direct guidance
Level 2 – Exhibits skill/concept with minimal guidance
Level 3 – Exhibits mastery of skill/concept
Level 4 – Exhibits understanding beyond grade level expectation.
Teachers assess a student’s performance level through observation, work samples,
dialogue, performance tasks, and other informal and formal measures. Students are retaught at the time of need and given multiple opportunities to show mastery of a
concept or skill.
