Hello Elsa England Families! My name is Carrie Mayhew and I couldn't be more excited to start the new school year at England Elementary! This will be my 4th year teaching 2nd grade at Elsa England! I am originally from Michigan where I was born and raised. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a bachelors degree in elementary education and minor in Early Education. I accepted a first grade teaching position in Atlanta, Georgia. After teaching in Atlanta for four years, I made my next big move to Round Rock, Texas and accepted a teaching position at Gattis Elementary. I have my certifications in Talented and Gifted and English as a Second Language. I am currently working on becoming a dyslexia therapist through Rawson Saunders in Austin. I am very passionate about teaching children how to read and overcoming any struggles or learning disabilities they may have. During the months of June and July, I keep very busy teaching ESL Kindergarten Summer School. I have really enjoyed living in Texas and becoming apart of Round Rock ISD. Even though I am a northern girl at heart...I love living in the south.
I travel home to Michigan as much as I can to visit my amazing family. I have two older sisters, two older brothers, and 7 nieces and nephews. I LOVE the snow and cold weather so adjusting to the summer heat here has been hard (although I do not miss shoveling)! I am very lucky that I get to travel home to see my wonderful parents every year for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and part of the summer and attend at least one Red Wings, Tigers, or Lions game...yes, the Lions. I am definitely a huge hockey fan so I try to make it up to Dallas to watch my Wings play the Stars. When the Wings aren't playing for the Stanley Cup, I also enjoy being on the lake for a Michigan summer, watching the fireworks in Bay City with family, canoeing up north, climbing the sand dunes in Sleeping Bear, walking around Mackinaw Island, and going to Cedar Point to ride roller coasters. I also enjoy watching movies and of course shopping.
I am so excited to be teaching 2nd grade this year and getting to know you and your child. I am here to help your child have a successful year so please don't ever hesitate to contact me about any questions you may have through out the school year. Please contact me anytime at [email protected] or you can leave a message on the classroom phone at
